Aikido is many things to many people.  An effective martial art that is defensive in nature and ethically proportionate in application, a practice that can help physical health and well-being, and/or a spiritual practice to discipline and overcome the self.

Basically, the goal is to harmonize with the ki energy of an opponent to lead conflict to a peaceful resolution.  Doing this takes much practice, and the discoveries along the way, in technique, in one’s self, and universal laws are never-ending, making this a practice that is ever-interesting!

Many sites go into great detail on Aikido.  I think a good introduction, in addition to other items on this site, would be to read my essay by clicking here.  Thank you for your interest in Aikido!
